Ottawa: Wellington Diner, Aulde Dubliner, Parliament, and Byward Market

This day started out slow!  I arrived in Ottawa last night, then proceeded to spent the remainder of the night enjoying glorious old fashions—deep into the morning hours.  Needless to say, it was tough to get moving this morning.

Fortunately, our lack of energy would not ruin our day…it would simply be low key.  Having visited this area several times over the past few years, we wouldn’t be doing anything I hadn’t done before.  Though I generally seek out new discoveries, I was quite content just walking around Ottawa on this nice day.

Wellington Diner

Located just a short walk from our location in Westboro lies the Wellington Diner.  I would point out it is unlike any diner I’m familiar with home in the USA.  Frankly, I would simply call it a restaurant.  Either way, despite how I feel about it’s identity, I enjoy eating there.  I’ve only been there for breakfast, though they do serve lunch and dinner as well.  They’re known for their benny’s, so I was easily persuaded to go back.

But I must confess: we actually set out to have breakfast at the Baker Street Cafe, a London Underground/classic rock themed restaurant.  They were closed for renovations, of course.  So we opted for the Wellington Diner, so I could get myself one of their unique benny’s.  I apologize, as I failed to take any pictures of the restaurant—sorry, diner—nor did I get a picture of the menu.  But—I did take a pic of my food!

Parliament

We made our way downtown, the area where Parliament is located.  This is always an enjoyable area to explore.  We ventured along the river and canal, which are surrounded by great shopping, eateries, and pubs.

Aulde Dubliner & Pour House

A must stop for me, this Irish Pub serves Kilkenny Irish Cream Ale, one of my favorite beers.  I am unable to find this particular brand back home, so you could expect to see this place pop up again in a future post.  It doesn’t hurt that the atmosphere is magnificent.  Sitting on the balcony, with perfect weather, surrounded by all the the charm an Irish Pub can offer, all with a pint of Kilkenny in my hand—well…it doesn’t get any better than this.

Byward Market

Located near Parliament, Byward Market is possibly Ottawa’s top attraction. The area is bustling with shopping, amazing restaurants, and plenty of drinking establishments. If you’re in Ottawa, put this on your list!

I gather the sign on the left indicates there is a bump.  But the sign on the right … should I be on the lookout for people bowling?
